Charlotte’s second television station after WBTV was WAYS, which signed on the air on January 5, 1954. It would only last until March 1955 since most TV’s didn’t have UHF tuners then. Channel 36 would return to the air as WCCB in 1964. The station would be WCTU, WRET, WPCQ and finally WCNC.
