WBT’s Henry Boggan posed in with Mount Airy native Andy Griffith. Griffith was an iconic American actor, comedian, and singer best known for playing Sheriff Andy Taylor on The Andy Griffith Show (1960–1968) and the sharp criminal defense lawyer in Matlock (1986–1995). Early in his professional performance career, he spent summers starring in Paul Green’s historic outdoor symphonic drama The Lost Colony in Manteo. Boggan, born in Rockingham, was a legendary nighttime radio personalityon Charlotte’s WBT. He hosted the popular late-night call-in show “Hello Henry” from late 1979 until his retirement in 1996. Known for his warm, folksy demeanor and 50,000-watt signal reach, he became a comforting companion to listeners across the East Coast. Boggan passed away in 2006 at the age of 71.
