Steve is a veteran broadcast executive with more than four decades of leadership experience in local television news and station management.
Steve most recently served as Vice President and General Manager of WRAL-TV and FOX 50 in Raleigh, North Carolina, roles he held from 2008 and 2014 respectively until his retirement from Capitol Broadcasting Company in July 2018. In recognition of his leadership and industry impact, Broadcasting & Cable magazine named him Large Market General Manager of the Year in 2015.
Prior to joining Capitol Broadcasting, Steve was Vice President and General Manager of the CBS affiliate in Phoenix, Arizona. During his tenure, he launched the Meredith-ASU Cronkite Journalism Minority Fellowship Program. In North Carolina, he continued his commitment to developing diverse talent by founding the Capitol Broadcasting Company/UNC Journalism Diversity Fellowship Program in 2013.
Earlier in his career, Steve held senior newsroom leadership roles in major markets including Washington, D.C., Dallas, St. Louis, as well as Harrisburg, Pa., Syracuse and Rochester, N.Y. He began his career as a television and radio reporter and newscast producer.
Following his retirement, Steve returned to service in interim leadership roles, including Interim Executive Director and General Manager of UNC-TV from October 2018 to January 2019, and Interim Vice President and General Manager of WNEM-TV in Saginaw, Michigan in 2020.
Steve is a past President of the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters and serves on the Advisory Board of the University of North Carolina Hussman School of Media and Journalism. His civic and community involvement has included leadership roles with the Anti-Defamation League (Arizona Region), the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce, the Maricopa County Volunteer Center, and the Arizona State University Walter Cronkite School of Journalism Foundation.
Steve is a graduate of the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. He was born in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. He and his wife, Renee, have two golden retrievers.
